Samsung prepares a photographic arsenal with 108 MP sensors and optical zoom for its upcoming Galaxy S11 and Galaxy Fold 2
A few days ago we met the first renderings of an alleged Galaxy S11 as well as some of its features, courtesy of OnLeaks. And today, thanks to information from Bloomberg, we learned that Samsung would be betting a lot of resources on the photographic section of its next flagship smartphone.
But that’s not all since these efforts to focus on photography would not be exclusive for the Galaxy S11, but also for the next generation of its folding device, Galaxy Fold, which points to changing format towards a clamshell design, to compete against the newly presented Motorola Razr.
According to sources consulted by Bloomberg, Samsung is working on a new rear module that would take the photo capabilities to “another level”, this is in response to the good comments that the new generation of iPhone 11 and 11 Pro has been receiving.
This module would reach both the Galaxy S11 and the Galaxy Fold 2, if they continue to be called that, and would consist of four main sensors: one of 108 megapixels, an ultra-wide-angle, one with 5X optical zoom, and a time-of sensor -flight to measure the depth, the latter very similar to that of the Galaxy Note 10+.

According to the information, the 108 MP sensor would be developed by Samsung itself and it would be the ISOCELL Bright HMX, which it developed together with Xiaomi and is that of the Mi Note 10. This sensor, in addition to the resolution, will allow 6K video capture and “fast focus”.
On the other hand, the five-magnification zoom sensor would be the development of its subsidiary Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., which is based on zoom technology from Corephotonics Ltd., an Israeli company that Samsung acquired in early 2019. This technology would be similar to what Huawei and OPPO have shown so far.
From Bloomberg they affirm that both devices, Galaxy S11 and Galaxy Fold 2, would be presented during the month of February, thus maintaining their current window of announcements and launchings of the beginning of the year.
