Video conferencing applications have become very successful as a result of confinement by the coronavirus. After the problems that tools like Houseparty or Zoom are going through, a new and powerful alternative has just appeared: Facebook Messenger.

The application was already on mobile and it also had old desktop versions in Windows for example. But Facebook has announced the launch of a new version of Messenger for Windows and macOS that brings all the features of the Android or iOS app to your Desktop or laptop PC.

Group Video Calls With the Same Options as On Mobile

On Facebook, they highlight that with this new application “the best of Messenger comes to the desktop”, including free and unlimited group video calls, although they do not indicate the maximum number of participants.

Among the features of Facebook Messenger for Windows and macOS, is being able to access a video conference on the large screen of the laptop or desktop PC compared to what mobile phones offer.

We will be able to continue working with the computer while we are in those individual or group videoconference sessions, and we will also receive notifications of new messages.

Communication will be synchronized with Facebook Messenger on the mobile , so that no calls or messages will be lost in the flow of this application. With Messenger for Windows 10 and macOS, dark mode and GIFs that animate a conversation will also be supported.

The tool is available in both Apple’s App Store and Microsoft’s Windows 10 store according to Facebook, but deployment appears to be gradual .

In our tests on Windows 10, it was not yet available except in the old version that was quite abandoned, so it may take some time to enjoy all those features.
